SIGNING OF A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF MONCTON IN CANADA
The Canadian University of Moncton (UM) and the Moroccan Foundation for Advanced Science, Innovation and Research (MAScIR) signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to promote cooperation and increase scientific and research exchanges.
This cooperation agreement was signed by the rector and vice-chancellor of the University of Moncton, Denis Prud’homme, and the executive director of MASclR, Ms. Nawal Chraibi, during a virtual ceremony attended by the ambassador of Morocco to Ottawa, Ms. Souriya Otmani, and the ambassador of Canada to Rabat, Mr. Nell Stewart.
The two partners agreed, among other things, to carry out joint activities related to scientific research and development, exchange of academic visits by researchers and joint organization of international conferences and seminars.
This five-year memorandum of understanding entered into force upon its signature.
In her speech for the occasion, Souriya Otmani said that this kind of international partnership, which covers various forms of collaboration in research and scientific development, contributes, thanks to its content, to strengthening « cultural and scientific cooperation between Morocco and Canada which is already considerable».
She added that the signing of this agreement comes at a time when Morocco has recently appointed Donald Arsenault, Honorary Consul of the Kingdom in Fredericton, in order to further develop its cooperation and ties of friendship with the province of New Brunswick.
While stressing that higher education is a fundamental lever for the economic and social development of youth and society in general, Mrs. Souriya Otmani congratulated the two institutions on the conclusion of this memorandum of understanding which demonstrates their willingness to formalize their cooperation «both in terms of ideas and action»
